Vivian Zohery

Research Scientist

I received my PhD (2024) in Science Education, Teaching, Learning, Policy, & Leadership at the University of Maryland, College Park, USA. I am a science education researcher, and focus on decolonizing STEM Ed from an Islamic pedagogical framework using indigenous methods. I obtained my masters degree in the same field (2020), and hold a Bachelor’s in Physiology & Neurobiology, with a minor in Astronomy (2017). Currently, I am the principal investigator of the Sisters Interrogating STEM (SiSTEM) Participatory Action Research project, where we have been conducting research in Muslim communities investigating the connection between Islamic values and the pursuit of Muslim Women in the West in these STEM spaces through the usage of halaqaat as a decolonial research methodology (instead of focus groups). In my free time, I teach Quran and Islamic studies, and occasionally volunteer at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C. in their Astronomy Education program.
