Rust, Miller and Palmer (1993): "Behavior of Trading Automata in a
computerized Double Auction Market" in Friedman and Rust (Eds.), The
Double Auction Market: Institutions, Theories and Evidence, Reading MA,
Addison-Wesley.

... or their article in Journal of Economic Dynamic and Control, nº18, pp.
61-96, 1994.

It's people from the Santa Fe Institute, so try also in www.sfi.edu for
more recent research.
