another simple question

sorry if this has been asked before or if it is buried somewhere in the
documnetation. Is there any way of getting rid of interface buttons,
sliders, monitors etc once you have set them up ? ie if I set up a button
and then at some point wish to get rid of it, can I. Get rid of the actual
icon in the interface I mean. This is necessary for me if I take someones
elses program and begin to edit it into my own etc. Thanks
