general programming guidelines

As a new convert to Starlogo I am just beginning to learn the commands and
how to structure what I want to do. At times I am frustrated because i am
not clear on how to put together a reasonable Starlogo program.

Are there some hints and general guidelines that I can start to implement
that will move me through from ideas to completed project ?
