The advantage is a smaller computational model. There is less to learn about
StarLogo in order to read or write programs. Your question that started this
thread about what a patch variable is would never have arisen in a StarLogo
which used (immobile) agents instead of patches.

Btw, trees and buildings, etc. in sltng are in fact agents, not patches!

I'm more familiar with NetLogo models where it is common to set a patch
variable to indicate whether there are trees (or grass or whatever) on the
patch. By the way, if buildings are agents are mountains as well? My view is
that everything is an agent.
