High school computer science curriculum to feature game development track

Beginning Fall 2006, Desert Academy of Santa Fe, a private 7th-12th middle/high school in Santa Fe, New Mexico, will begin offering a 4 year program in Computer Science featuring a game development thread. 7th and 8th graders at Desert Academy are already required to take Intro to Computers and Computer Graphics courses. But, 9th grade students will now have the opportunity to pursue a 4 year intensive computer science path which will include both game development and applications development focuses.
Course work will be similar to pursuing a college major and will include programming, graphics, animation, and networking classes. Students successfully graduating from the program may find advanced placement opportunities in college as well as career opportunities in the working world.
